To travel on a London bus, use a contactless payment card or Oyster card to pay, as cash is not accepted.

The fare is currently £1.75 per journey, with a daily cap of £5.25 for bus-only travel, and transfers are free within one hour.

Plan your journey using the TfL Go app or website, and remember to always touch the yellow card reader when boarding.

Paying for your journey

• Contactless or Oyster card: Use a contactless credit/debit card, a mobile device with contactless payment, or an Oyster card.
• Touch in only: On buses, you only need to touch the yellow card reader when you board.
• Fare and capping: A single bus fare is £1.75. A maximum of £5.25 is charged per day for bus-only travel.
• Free transfers: You can make unlimited free transfers to other buses and trams within one hour of your first touch-in.
• Cash is not accepted: Buses are cashless, so you cannot pay with cash.

Planning and during your journey

• Plan ahead: Use the TfL Go app or the online Journey Planner to plan your route and check for live disruptions.
• Hail the bus: Make sure the driver sees you at the bus stop and signal if necessary to get on.
• Signal to get off: Press the "stop" bell button before your desired stop.
• Night buses: Night bus services operate when the main Tube network is closed.

• Children: Children under 11 travel for free.
